How to Save Money on Your Phone Bill
There are many bills that you may be responsible for in your life. These bills may include a cell phone bill. However, you may feel like your bill is expensive, yet you don’t want to make any changes to the type of service you are getting. Luckily, there are ways that you can reduce the cost of your cell phone bill without having to change your plan all together!
1. Enroll in Autopay
Not all cell service providers will offer a discount for automatic payments, but a majority do! You want to make sure that you are enrolled in autopay because you may be able to save some on your bill. For example, if you enroll in autopay at T-Mobile, you can save $5 per line.
2. Change Carriers
If you change your carrier to a prepaid one, then you will be able to save a decent amount of money. You can even stay with your same carrier like Verizon but opt for the prepaid option or switch all together and go to another carrier like Cricket. Either way you should look at what prepaid plans are available and see if it is similar to your current one.
3. Remove or change your cell phone insurance coverage
You may be able to lessen coverage in order to save on your cell phone insurance. Sometimes carriers offer the option to change your insurance plan. However, if your carrier doesn’t have multiple plans then you can opt to drop insurance all together. While this may not be the best idea because you risk having to spend more money if anything happens to your phone, you will likely be able to save on your monthly expenses.
4. See if There are Any Other Discounts
Military personnel, students, etc., may be able to get special discounts on their plan. The best way to find out if there are any applicable discounts is by contacting the company whether through customer service or by stopping into the store. There may be no applicable discounts, but it doesn’t hurt to ask!
5. Keep Your Information Updated
Your service address may be able to save you some serious money. The amount of fees and taxes that are added onto your monthly bill are based on where your service address is. Your new state may be able to save you money from where you currently live.
6. Don’t Update Your Phone
While some new, fancy smartphone may be released, see if you can hold off. A normal smartphone is built to last over 24 months so even though an upgrade may be available just hold off. The longer you keep your current phone the more you will be able to save! However, if you really do want to get a new phone and can’t wait then looking into other options like a used smartphone would be the next best option too.
7. Split Your Bill with Others
As you add more lines, you will overall spend less per line. See if your family would want to have a family plan with you. If they don’t want a family plan, then see if any friends that you trust would be willing to get on a phone plan as well. If you are on one line yourself, you will likely pay more than if your plan had two lines and you split the cost!
